Cosmic Lonel(y)ness
---------------------------------------------------------

I did the creative writing for
MA Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art 2023 Show.

The words were used as key art for the department introduction
on the website and in the exhibition space.

The key text was this:

Pause.
Take a plunge.
Lose yourself.
Float down into these reflections.
Trace the detours, the ripples of repetition.
Flollow the hum of colliding brainwaves, see it become cosmic music.
Experience the shiver of visual touch.

How does the message become a mirror?
Does the morror bring us closer?
Are we closer in our lonel(y)ness?

This is a story of (un)human systems
taken apart.
It is design in the time of new knowledge.
It is hearing and holding a world in crisis.
A world that rests in the space between the last (un)touching atoms.

We have built an oasis, a pocket of absolute present tense.
We have made maps and found in them our being and breathing.
We have tested the fragile and the figurative.

We have esisted and ruptured, reached and rearranged.
The story has become the hero.

Don’t just read, submerge.

Each specialty stream under Visual Communication had their own introductory texts:

1. Graphic Design:

We’re making for you a manual for travelling between worlds. A puzzle laid out and wayfinding as art. Creation for crisis. Creation for care. Discovery, for us, is always a ‘final touch’ away. Though in the meantime, leave with us if you find any plants looking for a home, lone typefaces, new paper. Leave also a measuring tape, some tea, a Sharpie. Running on dehydration and techno music, we’re glued to screens but we’re listening, always. Tracing the world around us, in vectors and pixels. We touch with empathy, rest in kernings and create in reflection.

2. Illustration:

//hands a performance of homage and holding and touch / touch beyond translation / translation through colours and lines / lines that run through belonging and they shine / shine that nudges at seeking / seeking the fragment in constant motion and transition / transition into energy / energy in space and of space / space that eats into taste / taste that seduces us to the last licks / licks like a ritual / a ritual in seeking / seeking the sublime / sublime that bequests surrender / surrender to shaky but sure lines / lines traced through time and touch / touch of your hand that lingers in mine//

3. Experimental Communication

Halfway into beginning from the beginning, holding carefully in place a caffeinated head, the maker passes by never without making talk, reads persons and pages while making a box, fills it with reasons and a solid sprinkle of quotes for linkmaking and toting substance. With the currency of skill at hand and all the reflective creation, smelling of confidence, holding subject by the hand, they now destroy the box, make a boat out of it, and sail into the world, singing.
