Making A Camera

After an initial experiment with a cookie tin pinhole camera with photo paper, I wanted to take the task further. Never before had I experimented with film photography, so it seemed like the perfect next step. Figuring out the setup was a bit of a brain freeze but high on the spirit of the experiment, I went at it.

Materials used:

1.   Empty Cardboard Chocolate Box
2.  Black Paper (for pinhole and shutter)
3.  35mm film
4.  An empty container of film
5.  A big screw I found midst some scrap(to roll in the used film)
6.  A little round piece of wood to hold the screw in place
7.  Black tape (lots of it)!

Here is the process:

It took me a while to figure out how much to wind in the film,
but with some overlaps, and a bit of wasted film, I kinda got the hang of it,
although still not very accurate, it was fun.

Initial shots of the studio and a friend working alongside.

A couple of shots that had an okayish amount of captured light
(not too dark or none at all :D) were of pretty clouds that I saw
while walking home and the tree behind my house.

Went into the unexplored depths of the little back garden on a
sunny day. Realised I had never spotted the bird feeder that
was there in a corner.

Came back to the room and excitedly called my Grandma to tell
her about the things I’d seen that day. She’s my favourite firefly,
so tried to make her a part of this fun thing too.

That’s it for now, I’ll try to mend the camera that broke a little
while taking out the used film, and repeat the process.
Let’s see what that brings!
